Are You Working On The Things In You?

As an insecure Type A, I constantly find myself trying to battle things that are completely outside of my control instead of tackling the things that are in my control. I think I am doing this because there are certain things that I am ashamed to face and let’s be honest, ignorance is bliss. One of the things that I am trying to work on is the fact that there are only 24 hours in the day and I will never have the time to make everyone happy or do everything. That is something that I am trying to unlearn because I have always anchored my brand on being “that friend, that daughter, that mom, that manager, and that wife” but then I ask myself at what cost? Over time, I started to feel burnt out and realised that it is okay to pause. It is okay to sit still. It is okay to ask yourself what is the end goal? I will be honest that I continue to struggle defining my end goal because I suffer from missing out and wanting to maintain “that brand of being there for everyone at any moment”. So here are the steps that I am trying to take to work on me:

  1. Carve out time to pour into my well-being whether it is going for a 60 min walk, reading a book, or going to my favourite coffee shop

  2. Accept the things that I can and cannot change. I know that it is easier said than done but I am always reminding myself that the only two things that I can change are my actions and reactions. Everything else is outside of my control.

  3. Understand that I will never attain 100% satisfaction from everyone, including my beautiful daughter, Chloe.

So join me on this movement to work on things in you and not around you. We have very few things that we can control so why stress ourselves trying to change everything when we know we can only change a couple of things. So remember to work in you and not around you!

I make a living working in the City of London in banking. For fun I love to read, run, visit spas, and spend time with my family and friends. I believe that each of us holds power in our words and can be whatever we want to be so long as we make the commitment to work on it. I love to tell and share stories.
